The Isle of Wight College has recently been named by the Further Education Marketing Network as the best college in the UK for Innovative Use of Technology.

After being shortlisted by the judges IWCollege Marketing Team members travelled to Bracknell Hilton for the gala awards ceremony. They were delighted to be presented by Michael Osbaldeston from City & Guilds with the winner’s certificate and an engraved glass trophy.

Best practice in the industry

The College Marketing Network’s FE First Awards are now well established as the further education sector’s annual opportunity to celebrate marketing best practice. They showcase the excellent and imaginative work that is being achieved in further education colleges across the UK.

Each of the 11 categories has a specialist, independent judge, who not only looks for best practice in the category area, but also how the entry fits into the college’s marketing strategy. They are also looking for detailed evaluation of success against goals and objectives. Overall, judges agreed that there is a huge amount of innovative and creative thinking going on in colleges, and a very high standard was set.

The Prospectus in Your Pocket

The Isle of Wight College’s entry entitled “The Prospectus in Your Pocket” focused on the in-house design and implementation of 3 mobile Apps, for iOS, Android and Windows Phone platforms. All the Apps are available free of charge from App Stores and the viewer can then access courses information drawn from the college’s website, and apply, all in the palm of their hand.

The two App developers Aaron Bentley ( @aaronbentley) and Jamie Adams ( @j_the_geek) were delighted to be awarded first place in such a prestigious category.

The College Marketing Network’s Further Education First Awards are incredibly popular and well respected, and to have our hard work recognised at a national level is just fantastic!
