The College has launched The Futsal Academy programme, alongside the @Futsal Group, to give students the chance to earn a BTEC National Sports qualification, while developing technical skills to enhance their football skills.

Futsal is a brand of five-a-side football aimed at enabling players to learn closer ball control, it was developed in Uruguay in 1936 and world-renowned football stars such as Pele, Messi and Christiano Ronaldo have mastered their skills playing it.

The Futsal Academy programme also offers the opportunity for students to study towards a national BTEC Sports qualification, whilst developing the technical skills to harness their potential on the pitch.

The BTEC course is aimed at promoting a range of careers, including in the sport and leisure industry and higher education.

The arena will further offer students refereeing and coaching courses.

As well as the full-time study programme, students will compete in the National Colleges and Academies Futsal Super League, an official national games programme with regional divisions feeding through to national grand finals.

The NCA programme has recently completed a successful pilot scheme, and is delivered in affiliation with the Association of Colleges for Sport and the English Colleges Football Association.

We’re delighted to be establishing the Island’s first dedicated Futsal arena, and are really excited about the range of opportunities that will arise as a result. The Futsal Academy programme presents a dynamic approach to learning, and substantial links between sports education and business.
