The Isle of Wight College’s Level 3 Football Development student Harrison Manning (17) from Wootton has been selected to represent England in this year’s Dallas Cup to be held in Dallas, USA in April.
Widely regarded as the world’s best youth football tournament and in order to ensure the highest level of competition the Dallas Cup is an invitation only tournament. Over 900 international players participate in the tournament each year. On average the Dallas Cup entertains over 100,000 spectators during the tournament week and the tournament contributes $12.6m to the Dallas economy.
Throughout Dallas Cup’s history, many participating players have gone on to great notoriety as professional players and World Cup participants. A few of the stars that have gone to play in the world’s biggest stage include David Beckham and Wayne Rooney. In fact, Dallas Cup alumni have gone on to play in over 350 World Cup games!
To represent his country, to follow in the footsteps of David Beckham and Wayne Rooney and to showcase his skills at the Dallas Cup is a fantastic opportunity for Harrison and I am sure he will enjoy every moment.
Three Isle of Wight College students were put forward for trials and got through to the second trials, from which Harrison was selected as one the 20 young players to represent England.
The two-year Football Development course is affiliated with Bournemouth AFC and throughout the year play youth teams from across the country. Most noteably this year beating Chelsea 2:0 and Fulham 5:2.
