Four College business students have all taken top honours from their university course in the same year. The four – who studied the Higher National Diploma (HND) at The Isle of Wight College before continuing at University of Portsmouth – all achieved first class honours at the University’s recent award ceremony.
The four students studied the HND at the College and then took different routes to success.
Natalia Requiel-Martinez and Sharon Lake studied the part-time BA(Hons) Leadership, Business and Management whilst Jonathan Kirkham and Helen Flaherty completed the BA(Hons) Business Administration.
Natalia said: ‘Our tutors taught us how to study and learn in an effective and useful way, showing us how all the theory could be applied to real scenarios. Most of all, our tutors were always readily available as we were a small group, which made it easy to voice queries and concerns. Going on to a university class in which we were 150 students, I really valued that’, she added.
Phil Truckel, Lecturer in Business and Management at The Isle of Wight College said:
Our students have a strong track record in getting the top honours, but to get four first class honours from our HND in one year really is the icing on the cake. We have small groups so the percentage of our students who achieve firsts is very high in comparison to the university itself. Students who study either our HND or Foundation Degree (FdA) complete two thirds of their qualification with us before ‘topping-up’ to the full BA (Hons) at University of Portsmouth.
First class honours can only be achieved by hard work and commitment and we congratulate Jonathan, Helen, Natalia and Sharon and others who achieved similar from the FdA route, we are very pleased for them and wish them well.
