ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The ACS Gas Scheme classifies applicants into the following categories:

Category 1

Applicants are experienced gas fitting operatives, with existing gas knowledge and skills seeking to renew expiring or expired certificates of gas safety competence or seeking assessment and certification to extend their range of gas work. Applicants applying for assessment must present to the centre all appropriate certificates of gas safety competence.

Category 2

Applicants hold a nationally recognised qualification, such as an NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds Craft certificate, in a trade associated with gas work, e.g. plumbing. They must provide evidence that they hold qualifications relevant to the area of gas work they are seeking to obtain certification in. They must provide written evidence to the centre confirming that they have undertaken ‘on-the- job’ gas installation under the direct supervision of a competent operative.

Category 3 : applicants are new entrants to the gas industry. As such, they are without a relevant related qualification and/or experience, entering employment for the first time or changing career direction. Individuals in this category are advised to seek relevant training and experience.

Further details on category entry are available.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?

Gas Safe Registration

On successful completion of your assessment categories, an application for certification will be sent to BPEC. If they decide to recommend the issue of a certificate of competence, BPEC will notify Gas Safe of the assessment categories successfully completed for inclusion on their national database. BPEC will also notify Gas Safe of assessment outcomes resulting in the termination of an assessment.

Successful completion of ACS assessment does not automatically result in Gas Safe registration. You must apply separately direct to Gas Safe and complete their registration process.
