Students should have the following:
- 4 GCSE grades 3-9 (A*-D) or equivalent including an English 3 (D) or English functional skill level 1
To gain this professional qualification will require hard work, commitment and self motivation.
VRQ level 1 is requirement for students who intend to progress onto VRQ 2 Hairdressing.
VRQ 1 Diploma in Hairdressing is an introduction to hairdressing covering all aspects of Hairdressing. This is a one year part-time course starting September to July. Potentially 1 day a week.
What Will I Learn?
VRQ 1 is made up of 13 units covering; Introduction to Hair & Beauty sector(project),Presenting a professional image, Health & Safety, Teamwork, Shampooing and Conditioning, Reception, Retail displays, Styling women’s hair, Plaiting, Styling men’s hair, Create an image using colour, Temporary colour and the Art of dressing hair.
Successful completion at this course will enable you to be interviewed for progression to Hairdressing level 2. (Minimum 88% attendance is required and a good report from your class tutors)
How Will I Learn?
You will learn by Skills Workshops and Practical learning in our salons working on ‘real clients’.
You will also undertake a cutting programme and develop hairdressing skills to a higher level in preparation for hairdressing level 2.
Task Based Learning enables you to gain an understanding of essential theoretical knowledge via research, oral questioning, independent tests and the production of written assessed evidence.
Tutorials & target setting will support your learning and achievement.
Work experience in a salon placement is encouraged in order to gain an insight into this demanding profession.
What Can The Course Lead To?
