Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for Spinlock as a Quality Measurement Apprentice.

Spinlock are an international market leader in the design and manufacture of marine equipment. Our products are used by all types of water users and on land for rope holding. Our products are used globally, from Australia to Norway, from Vancouver to Yokohama City.  We are a small, dynamic team based in Cowes, the home of yachting, surrounded by the sea and next to the Countryside; our head office is within an iconic building in the town and our manufacturing site is within a few minutes on the edge of Cowes. We are proud to make all our products in Cowes. 

 An exciting opportunity now exists for an enthusiastic, flexible, reliable and methodical person to join the friendly Spinlock production team based in Cowes. You will be required to quality check products to a determined standard. Assisting the production supervisor in the reporting and publishing of quality data.

Job Purpose: This role is responsible for the quality checking of built products to meet determined standards in order to ensure all products shipped to end users are accurate and without defects. To maintain best build guides and carry out analysis of quality issues. To follow Company Procedures and Quality Procedures at all times. To ensure your working area is tidy and to report directly to the production supervisor.

Job role and responsibilities:

  • Quality checking of built orders for customers and/or stocking orders in our PROTECT, CONTROL and SENSE product ranges
  • Liaising with Despatch to gather quality data
  • Recording findings in an appropriate format 
  • Raise quality issues immediately to the production supervisor
  • Other duties as required including covering other areas during peak times
  • Dress in a professional and appropriate way for your role and in accordance with Company Policy
  • Ensure adherence to and compliance with all health and safety requirements and good practice
  • Raise health and safety issues immediately to Team Leader
  • Liaise with the production supervisor and Despatch to ensure products are quality checked in required shipping order

 

  • Quality checking of products to set guidelines to meet sales order demands
  • Quality checking must be conducted in date order, working on the earliest date or number unless instructed otherwise by the production supervisor/Manager
  •  Products must be checked against publishing guidelines 
  • Any quality issues must be reported immediately to the production supervisor
  • Findings must be published using excel in a format that can be imported into other medium/portals
  • Dress in a professional and appropriate way for all public facing situations and in accordance with company policy
  • Ensure adherence to and compliance with all health and safety requirements and good practice
  • Ensure adherence to Company procedures and policies
  • Spinlock operate a clear workspace area; at the end of each day areas should be tidied, tools put away and if any incomplete orders to store safely and neatly on workstation
  • General cleaning duties for quality checking area as allocated on rotation basis by the production supervisor

Qualifications Required:  

 

  • Grade C/4 or above at GCSE (or equivalent level) in English and Maths

 

Apprenticeship Framework:

  • Level 3 Engineering Technical Support Apprenticeship
  • Functional Skills if not already achieved a GCSE C/4 (or above) in Maths and English (or equivalent qualification)
  • There is a requirement to complete 20% off the job training, this includes time spent either learning something new, other courses or any support work that is not in your usual role

 

Working Week:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8.00am till 5.00pm with 30 minutes for lunch, morning and afternoon 10 minute tea break (set times).
  • Friday: 8.00am till 2.00pm with 15 minutes for lunch and a 10 minute tea break in the morning
  • One day weekly attendance at Cecamm required as part of the course

 

Wage:

  • £6.15 per hour

There may be an opportunity for travel within the role for training purpsoes where required.

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.90 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
