Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for Surejust Manufacturing as an Apprentice Welder.

Surejust have been manufacturing equipment used by the marine industry for over 25 years, their reputation for quality is shown throughout their extensive product range.

Their calorifiers are the best of class in the industry, designed and hand built in their purpose build factory; every calorifier follows stringent quality tests and extreme pressure testing to ensure its quality and reliability every time.

The Sure Cal boiler or calorifier has been their flagship product for decades, high quality materials, superb hand built construction and a hard earned reputation for quality make the Sure Cal calorifier one of their top selling products year on year for world class boats.

Surejust are now looking for an enthusiastic and hands on apprentice with a keen interest in welding to join their small friendly team in Sandown whilst working towards an Apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding.

Duties and tasks will include:

  • Gas welding
  • Sheet metal
  • Brazing/copper cylinders

Candidates must Demonstrate:

  • Problem Solving
  • Attention to detail
  • Organisational skills

Personal Qualities:

  • Hands on
  • Efficient
  • Keen interest to forge a career in welding

Minimum Qualifications

GCSE grade C or above in English & Maths (or equivalent qualification and/or ability to work towards these Functional Skills) 

Apprenticeship Framework 

  • Level 2 Fabrication and Welding Apprenticeship
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT, if required

Working Week 

  • 39.5 hours a week
  • Monday – Thursday – 8am – 4.30pm
  • Friday – 8am – 4pm
  • One day a week at Cecamm during term time
  • Duration of the apprenticeship is around 12 – 18 months
  • There is a requirement to complete 20% off the job training, College attendance will contribute towards this, but time spent either learning something new, other courses or any support work that is not your usual role will also be counted

Weekly Wage 

  • To be determined at the interview stage

The employer has asked that all applications be made directly to the college and not to the employer.

All apprentices are entitled to apply for a discounted bus pass, which provides a significant saving for travel. 

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.70 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
