Basic Skills

A recent survey found more than 5,000,000 adults have literacy skills below the level needed to get a good GCSE grade. Not surprisingly, the situation is more acute with Maths, with 15,000,000 adults having numeracy skills below GCSE level. You are not alone!

Good English and Maths skills can be life enhancing, affect people's job prospects, their ability to manage their own affairs and the support they can offer their families.

To ensure that everyone can improve their skills and gain these qualifications, The Isle of Wight College offer courses in English and Maths at a variety of venues around the island, at the college campus, in our learndirect centre and now in the workplace as well!

Our classes are held at a variety of days/times including evenings and are FREE OF CHARGE. Courses are small, friendly and flexible.

Our inspirational staff are very approachable, experienced in teaching a wide range of abilities and are sensitive to individual needs.

You can join the course at any time during the academic year and will study a national qualification, which can be taken when you are ready, at any time during the course.

There is also an option to study on-line at one of our COOLspot centres visit www.learndirect.co.uk for more information on learndirect and what learndirect can offer you!

Our courses are an excellent way for people to return to learning, maybe for the first time since leaving school. They enable qualifications to be gained and at the same time increase self confidence and help career progression.
