Improve your English language skills at the Isle of Wight College

The International Department offers English for Speakers of Other Languages courses to help non-native speakers improve their language skills in order to:

  • Adapt to living in the UK
  • Further their academic studies
  • Develop their careers.

The Isle of Wight College tutors are highly qualified professional teachers. They use motivating and stimulating teaching methods, making lessons interactive and interesting.

There are a range of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses depending on a student’s ability. The first course (Community ESOL) is supported by the Isle of Wight Council and provides all new students an entry route into ESOL without the pressure of achieving a qualification. Once a student has successfully completed this programme they can progress onto one of the qualification based courses which range from Entry 1 to Entry 3 Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing as well as FCE and IELTs.

Please contact us if you are interested in preparing for the Life in the UK test.

How to enrol?

Before you enrol on an English course, we need to check your English level in order to confirm which class is most suitable for you. The free English Placement Test takes just under an hour to complete.

After you have taken the test, a tutor will recommend which class is best for you and your needs. You will then be invited to visit the International office to enrol.

Please email international@iwcollege.ac.uk to book an appointment.
