Luke represents IW College in National Final

12 Oct
Luke Woolford National Final

Luke Woodford (22) Level 2 Painting and Decorating student represented The Isle of Wight College at the National Skills Challenge event held at Leeds City College.

Luke, who is an apprentice for Martin Woodford and Sons (Decorators), qualified for this event by finishing second in the Southern Regional Final. His score was so close to the winner, with only one point between them, that he was selected to represent the Southern region in the national final.

The competitors had two-and-a-half days to complete the task of preparing, setting out, painting and installing a decorative wall board with a prescribed design.

The judges thought that the standard of work at both the regional and national finals that was so high that Luke was rated along with only 12 others as being amongst the best in the country.

Results over the last two years have put The Isle of Wight College’s painting and decorating section in the top 13 colleges in the UK for practical skills.

Course co-ordinator Stephen Delaney said “My congratulations to Luke. His work was of a very high standard and to compete against the best in Britain whilst still only a Level 2 student is an outstanding achievement and I am very proud of him.”
